Miracle Knots vs Boho Braids: Method, Hair & Cost

Compare hand-braided boho with crochet-based miracle knots: the method, hair format, finish and questions to ask before booking.

Boho braids usually braid loose hair into each plait; miracle knots use a crochet-style attachment to a prepared base. They can create a similar loose-curl finish, but the required hair format and installation steps differ. Names and attachment details vary, so show your stylist a reference and confirm the base before buying.

Compare the method, visible finish and hair preparation below. Neither name guarantees a fixed appointment time, price or pack count.

In one line

Boho braids feed loose pieces into a braid. The miracle-knot method discussed here attaches prepared crochet pieces to a small braided base. Confirm the attachment with your installer; a similar finish does not make the formats interchangeable.

For hand-braided boho styles, loose pieces are fed into plaits and some curls are left out. In the crochet-based miracle-knot method described here, prepared pieces attach to small individual braids. Ask your stylist which base and connection they intend to use.

Descriptions of miracle knots are not uniform across tutorials. Confirm the foundation and attachment from your reference photo rather than assuming every method uses the same hair.

Because the base is different, the finish reads differently. Boho braids are the more defined braided look, with clean lines running along each plait, while miracle knots read softer, closer to naturally full hair, because the joins are small and the curl does the blending.

Neither look is clearly better.

If you want visible braids with curly pieces hanging between them, boho braids give you that. If you want the fullness without the braid lines showing, miracle knots sit closer to it. The choice is about which finish you want to see in the mirror, not which style is more correct.

Prepared crochet pieces can reduce strand preparation, but the appointment still depends on the base, number of attachments, length and desired fullness. Hand-braided boho also varies by braid count and curl placement. Neither name guarantees a faster or cheaper install.

Ask for a quote covering the base, installation, hair and any later maintenance. Compare total grams as well as pack price; different brands and formats do not contain the same amount of hair per pack.

On the pro side, miracle knots use less hair than a boho install, so they cost less and weigh less on the scalp. The crochet route is quicker than feeding hair in strand by strand, the roots sit flat, and individual strands can be swapped without taking the whole style down. On the con side, you give up the defined braid lines that make boho braids read as braids, and you need pre-looped hair rather than the braiding hair a boho install would use. The style is also new enough that opinions on its pros and cons still vary widely.

The hair question is where the two styles split hardest. Regular boho hair covers two parts in practice: the braiding hair fed into the plait, and the loose curly pieces left out for texture. Neither is what a miracle knot install starts with, because the method hooks pre-looped crochet hair onto the base instead of braiding hair in.

So can you use regular boho hair for miracle knots? The braiding hair has no place in it, and loose boho pieces only work if you are willing to separate and fold them yourself, since they arrive without the pre-made loop a hook needs. If you want the install to go fast, pre-looped crochet human hair is the answer.

Tressifine makes two pre-looped crochet lines for this style: Body Wave for a soft, flowing finish, and Burmese Curly for rounder, fuller curls. Both come pre-looped, 80 to 100 strands per pack, 100g per pack, in 9 colours and lengths from 16 to 26 inches.

Bora Bora braids are not a separate technique. They sit under the wider boho braids umbrella, most likely as a named curl pattern or finish rather than a different install method.

That leaves the same divide as before.

A braided base against a crocheted base. The label changes, the method question does not.

Confirm a crochet attachment before choosing crochet human hair for crochet installs. If your stylist will feed loose curls into plaits, choose bulk human hair for hand-braided boho styles. Plan total grams and packs with your installer.
