Which is the best human hair for boho braids? Deep wave or body wave

Deep wave and body wave are both described as "loose". The difference only shows up once the hair is in the braid. Here is how the two textures actually behave, and which one keeps the braid as the focus.

"Best human hair for boho braids" is a hard question to answer with a brand name, because the honest answer is a texture. Two people can buy the same wave and get very different results depending on how tight their braids are and how much of the braid is their own hair.

So this is about the choice you actually make: deep wave or body wave.

Wave names are not separate categories. They are points along one continuous scale, from straight to tightly curled:

The wave scale, from straight to curly

  • Straight—
  • Body wave—
  • Loose wave—
  • Deep wave—
  • Curly—

A directional reference, not a measurement. Brands place these names slightly differently.

Tressifine Body Wave bulk human hair, one 100g pack.
Body wave. Loose, wide S-waves. Sits closer to straight, so it reads as movement rather than curl.
Tressifine Deep Wave bulk human hair, one 100g pack.
Deep wave. Tighter, closer S-waves with more spring. Reads as visible texture from a distance.

Both of the photos above are our own product photographs, not illustrations. Same lighting, same background, so the only thing that changes is the wave.

The part that surprises people

Tighter waves eat more visual length. At the same measured inch, a deep wave will look shorter than a body wave once it settles. If your heart is set on a particular drop, that matters more than the wave name.

34 product listings across 9 brands selling human hair for braiding, boho braids and crochet installs were read, and the texture words each one uses were counted.

Texture words used by 34 braiding-hair listings

Listings read September 2026. Counts are listings that use the word anywhere in the title or specification area.

What stands out:

Deep wave is an established term for braiding hair: seven of the listings use it. Body wave is not. None of them do, even though the same brands sell body wave hair in their other ranges. And in the whole sample, not one listing puts the two textures side by side, which is probably why the question keeps coming up.

That does not make body wave wrong for braids. It means the comparison is usually missing, so we wrote it.

Boho braids are a specific look: the braid is the structure, and a few loose waves are placed through it. That means the wave is never the main event. The braid is.

So the question is not which texture is better. It is which one you want the eye to land on first.

Choosing by the look you want
Choose If you want Visual effect in the braid
Body wave The braid to stay the focus, with soft movement Loose pieces read as gentle flow, close to straight
Deep wave The loose pieces to read as texture from a distance Visible wave, more contrast against the braid
Either, longer A specific drop to the waist or below Add length to compensate for the wave tightening up

Look at your outfit and the season

Softer, looser waves read calmer. Tighter texture reads more styled. Neither is more "correct". It is a mood decision more than a technical one.

Look at your braid size

Very fine knotless braids already carry a lot of visual detail. Adding deep wave on top can tip into busy. Larger braids have more room for a tighter wave.

Check the amount of loose pieces

If you plan only a handful of loose pieces, the wave is a small accent, so either works. If you want loose pieces throughout, the texture becomes the pattern of the whole style, and the choice is much more visible.

If you are still between the two, ask yourself this:

When someone sees my hair from across the room, should they notice the braids, or the waves?

Braids first, choose body wave. Waves first, choose deep wave. Both at once is a styling decision, and it usually means more loose pieces rather than a different texture.

And if you genuinely cannot decide, buy one texture and try it on a section before committing to the whole head. It costs less than being wrong about the full set.

Is deep wave or body wave better for boho braids?

Neither is better. They produce different looks. Body wave gives soft movement and keeps the braid as the focus. Deep wave gives visible texture so the loose pieces read from further away. Choose by which one you want the eye to land on first.

What type of hair is used for boho braids?

Bulk human hair: loose strands with no sewn band, so it can be worked into the braid. Both deep wave and body wave are sold in this form. Avoid wefted hair, which has to have the band removed first. We explain what no-weft actually means in no-weft, explained.

Which curls are best for boho braids?

It depends how much loose hair you plan to use. A handful of accent pieces can carry a tighter curl. Loose pieces throughout the whole style usually look more intentional with a softer wave, because the texture becomes the pattern of the style rather than a detail.

Is it best to use human hair for boho braids?

For boho braids, human hair gives you reusability and a finish that holds up to heat and product. The trade-off is cost: a full head of human bulk hair costs considerably more than synthetic. Only you can weigh that against how often you would reuse it.

How many packs of human hair for boho braids?

Boho styles use less extension hair than a fully extended set, because a large part of the braid is your own hair. Our packs are 100g and our supplier's guidance for a full head is about 2 packs for a shorter style and 3 for a longer one. And because pack weight varies between brands, the maths behind that number is in how many packs you actually need.

What this guide is based on

Competitor listings. We read 34 product listings across 9 brands selling human hair for braiding, boho braids and crochet installs, and counted which texture words appear in the title or specification area. The listings were read in September 2026; they change, so check the current one.

Search demand. Volume figures come from Google Ads search data for the United States, read September 2026: "human hair for boho braids" 9,900/month, "best human hair for boho braids" 1,000, "deep wave human hair for boho braids" 880, "body wave hair braids" 480.

Our own products. The two comparison photographs are our own product photos of Body Wave Bulk and Deep Wave Bulk, shot on the same background. Tressifine packs are 100g with 12–30 inch length options. Our supplier's pack guidance is about 2 packs for a shorter style and 3 for a longer one, but they did not define where "shorter" ends, so treat it as a starting point.

What we did not do. We have not verified how these textures behave on different hair types, and we did not survey customers. We are not claiming one texture suits everyone or is better in general.
